Buyer Reports Car "Speaks To Him" After Winning Auction; Wife Reports She Does Not
The buyer, who paid $41,500 for a 1991 MR2, says the car has "a soul." His wife, who was not consulted before the purchase, says the garage does not have room for a soul.
Greg Halverson, 41, of Columbus, Ohio, reports that the 1991 Toyota MR2 he purchased on Bring The Bids last month for $41,500 "speaks to him" in a way that no previous vehicle has.
"It's hard to explain," Halverson said, standing next to the MR2 in a garage that previously housed a functional second car. "It just has a soul."
His wife, Jennifer Halverson, reports that the car does not speak to her. She also reports that the garage no longer has room for her 2018 Honda CR-V, which now lives in the driveway.
"He didn't ask me," Jennifer said. "He sent me a link at 11pm on a Tuesday and said 'thoughts?' I was asleep. He interpreted that as approval."
Greg disputes this characterization. "She knew I'd been looking," he said. "The MR2 community is very supportive. They understood."
The MR2 has required $3,200 in repairs since purchase, which Greg describes as "part of the relationship." Jennifer describes it as "money we were saving for a vacation."
Greg has begun writing a listing for the CR-V, which he describes as "a reluctant parting." Jennifer has not been consulted.
