Man Describes Automatic Transmission As "Slushbox" Despite Never Having Driven Manual
In a 600-comment thread, the man doubled down, citing a YouTube video he watched in 2019 as his primary source. He has since purchased a manual transmission car and stalled it 14 times.
A man who has driven exclusively automatic transmission vehicles for his entire 12-year driving career described a seller's 2004 Honda Accord as a "slushbox" in the comment section of a recent Bring The Bids auction, triggering a 600-comment thread that remains active as of press time.
"Automatics are for people who don't really drive," wrote the commenter, identified only as ThreePedalPurist, in a post that has since been liked 84 times.
When another commenter noted that ThreePedalPurist's profile listed his current vehicle as a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE with an 8-speed automatic, he clarified that he was "between manuals."
He has been between manuals since 2014.
Following the thread, ThreePedalPurist purchased a 2002 Subaru WRX with a 5-speed manual. He stalled it 14 times on the drive home from the seller's house. He described the experience as "exactly what driving is supposed to feel like."
The original Accord sold for $14,200. The buyer, who drives an automatic, has not commented.
