The storage facility maintained a constant 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 45% relative humidity. The seller installed a dehumidifier in 2019 "as a precaution." The car has not been exposed to weather since 2008.

"Documented neglect" refers to the seller's meticulous records of every service interval he missed. The binder contains 34 pages of oil change receipts, followed by a 12-page gap from 2015 to 2019 that the seller describes as "a period of reflection."

The S14 engine was inspected by an independent BMW specialist who described it as "surprisingly good for a barn find." The specialist was shown the garage. He revised his assessment to "exactly as good as you'd expect for a climate-controlled storage unit."

The car sold for $112,500. The seller has since referred to the climate-controlled garage as "the barn" in all subsequent conversations.
